The Blood Cries Out

This piece started out in a masters class by Kirsten Stingle, on doing faces and hands.  I’ve always loved doing hands, but this class gave me several more techniques in creating accurate and expressive sculptures.

As I continued working on the piece, it began to focus more and more on the topic of human trafficking and modern day slavery.  Working with OM, we have become increasingly aware of the ongoing injustice of slavery, not only in far away countries, but right here in the US (Atlanta is known as a major international hub for women and children being trafficked to and from all over the world).  The thought that struck me is that, just as the blood of Abel cried out when he was murdered by Cain, the blood of those who are bound, beaten and abused also cries.  We can choose to either close our ears, or do whatever we can to bring justice and freedom for these people.
