For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
When I created this piece, I wasn’t thinking about the context of Christmas. However, it struck me on this Christmas morning that this is a wonderful picture of the Incarnation, of “God with us”. In the miracle of Christ’s birth, He is both the physical baby–the One held, and the Eternal God–the One who holds. The Eternal becomes flesh and blood, a helpless baby in the arms of a young, inexperienced and probably frightened mother.
May the deep blessings of Grace, Peace and Joy be with you in this Christmas season!
